POSITION TITLE: Substitute Classroom Instructor
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrate a competency of the English language
Bachelor degree or Master degree from an accredited college/university
Current Kansas State Teaching Certification on file
Health Certificate on file in the Central Office
Desire to continue career improvement
RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principal
PURPOSE: The Substitute Classroom Instructor creates a positive
learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students in the absence of the regular instructor. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Substitute Classroom Instructor must work closely with other staff and administration of UnifiedSchool District 446.
PAYMENT RATE: According to salary schedule for Substitute Teachers and Emergency Substitute Teachers
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Implement effective lessons in the absence of the regular Classroom Instructor.
- Motivate students through effective communications and evaluative responses.
- Demonstrate awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
- Set high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
- Establish and maintain a positive climate for learning through appropriate classroom management.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with others.
- Obtain advance approval of the regular Classroom Instructor and/or Principal for all activities.
- Facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students.
- Observe district policies during all activities.
- Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
- Other duties as assigned to or by the Regular Classroom Instructor and those of the Building Principal, or other Administrative Staff, i.e. playground duty, parking lot duty, lunch duty, etc.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
- Operate equipment appropriately as required.
- React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
- Support the value of an education.
- Support the philosophy and mission of UnifiedSchool District 446.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- An essential function of this position is attendance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, and reaching.
- Occasional climbing of steps may be required in some buildings.
- Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
