POSITION TITLE: Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrate a competency of the English language Master’s Degree or above Kansas Administrative Certification Successful teaching and/or administrative experience (Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
SUPERVISES AND EVALUATES: Staff members designated by the Principal
POSITION GOAL: To relieve the principal of such impediments as prevent the principal from fulfilling his or her chief responsibility of promoting the educational well-being of each student in the school. In order to accomplish these goals, the Assistant Principal must work closely with other staff and administration of Unified School District 446.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school.
2. Serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
3. Propose schedules of classes and extra-curricular activities.
4. Supervises the preparation of student schedules.
5. Set high expectations for student's achievement and behavior.
6. Demonstrate an awareness of the needs of students and provide for individual differences.
7. Motivate students through effective communications and evaluative responses.
8. Maintains confidentiality of all student information.
9. Work with department heads and faculty in compiling the annual budget requests.
10. Requisition supplies, textbooks and equipment, conducting inventories, maintaining records, and checking on receipts for such material.
11. Cooperate in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill practice activities.
12. Assume responsibility for coordinating transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services. 13. Supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance, and work with the attendance supervisor for investigative follow-up actions.
14. Assist in maintaining discipline throughout the student body and deal with special cases as necessary. 15. Serve with parent, faculty and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives.
16. Administer the student insurance program.
17. Perform such record-keeping functions as the principal may direct.
18. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as the principal may from time-to-time assign.
19. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
20. Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
21. Support the value of an education.

23. An essential function of this position is attendance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
2. Occasional stooping, bending, turning, and reaching.
3. Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
4. Occasional climbing of steps may be required in some buildings.
5. Requires some travel.
6. Must work indoor and outdoors year-round.
7. Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
